Granville Island will host one of the city’s most unique and beloved winter festivals from February 14 to 16 as the city’s cultural hub hosts its ninth annual Winterruption. A music, food and arts extravaganza, Winterruption offers a chance to break up the winter doldrums with a West coast celebration. It’s a three-day party filled with a variety of events to entertain everyone in your group.

This year, three new events have been added to the festival: Meet Your Makers Tour, PechaKucha Idea Exchange, and Edible Canada House: Festival Under the Bridge.

From artists’ exhibits to local food, French films to pop-up dances, Fringe Festival performances to family fun – something surprising is around every corner of the island all weekend long!

Capoeira

Families are front and center with musical performances by Charlotte Diamond, one of BC’s best-loved children’s entertainers. Mask making with the Vancouver International Children’s Festival, parading through the streets with stilt dancers, and dancing alongside Grupo Axé Capoeira’s Brazilian acrobats will captivate the young and young at heart; many of these activities are free of charge.

Music lovers can look forward to Coastal Jazz’s presentation of We Are the City, Wake Owl, Qalandar and other independent live acts, while those looking for laughs can take in one of the comedy shows, such as the outrageous two-man performance of Hockey Night at the Puck and Pickle Pub at Studio 1398 Theatre.
