MOVE Studio, New West, BC

MOVE Studio has been open for business since January 12 and is New Westminster’s newest choice for those looking to stay fit.

Offering classes in yoga, pilates and dance, to suit all fitness levels, the uniqueness of MOVE lies in the astounding variety you get with membership. There are few studios that can rival their assortment. You can literally try a different yoga class for every day of the week (they offer seven types), then turn up the intensity with Pilates for the next week (five types) and finally shake out with full-on dancing (six types) for another week. The choices are sensational and can be calibrated for any fitness buff or coach potato.

Studio owners Jenni Higgins and Aaron Hart gave us a tour of the cozy studio space that also includes a small retail wall and a tea corner, promoting artists and merchants from the Lower Mainland. Guests can treat themselves to a revolving selection of teas from New West’s Great Wall Tea Company

Local artisans Bayoush Jewelry Designs, Laurie Emerslund and Firefly all feature unique pieces from ethically sourced materials. Yoga props and accessories are available from Burnaby’s Halfmoon Yoga Products. Finally, anyone can get decked out in fabulous clothing by Inner Fire and Tonic.

Jenni was born with dancing shoes laced on and always yearned to own her own studio. A consummate performer, she was fully involved with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and Kidco Theatre by the time she reach the ripe age of 10.

Handling the logistics and customer service side of the business, partner Aaron is also passionate about fitness. When they met, the seed for MOVE was germinated. They knew they wanted to sprout roots in their local community, where they shopped, played and lived.

New Westminster’s historic Sapperton neighbourhood has gone through many changes since the Fraser Canyon Gold Rush days of the 1850’s. Still steeped with heritage, the area is being transformed with an influx of young families and businesses, taking advantage of new condo developments and the nearby Sapperton Skytrain station.

“We saw an opportunity to get into an emerging district from the ground up. We want to grow with the neighbourhood rather than trying to edge our way in when everything is already established”, said Aaron. The energetic couple will share their philosophy of supporting the local community, passion for wellness and commitment to providing quality fitness experiences with all who walk through their doors.
