Rare Finds Gala 2019

On Saturday, April 27, join emcee Fred Lee at Van Dusen Botanical Gardens and feast your senses at Rare Finds: A Feast For The Senses, a chance to sample culinary creations from some of Canada’s top chefs, mixologists and brewmasters.

Rare Finds Gala 2019

The Rare Finds gala features music, a wine wall raffle and renowned BC chefs who present their culinary delights in a fun and spirited competition where guests enjoy the opportunity to vote for top chef of the night.

Rare Finds gala

New chefs are joining us this year to compete with returning chefs, including last year’s winners: Christophe Bonzon from Chez Christophe and Mark Pennington from Cacao Berry (sweets), Leigh Stratton and David Brown from Bridge Brewing (craft brewing), Tyler Day and Dan Olson from Railtown Cafe (savoury), Karen McAthy from Blue Heron (vegan cuisine) and Katie Ingram from Bittered Sling (cocktail mixologists).

Chefs entice votes from guests using only the finest local and sustainable ingredients in their creations. This year, the event marks its 10th edition(!), promising a stimulating, educational and enjoyable event. I am honoured once again to serve as an event media sponsor.

Rare Disease Foundation

This evening both celebrates and honours the resilience of the community we serve while helping those living with rare diseases.

Here are just two items that guests will be able to bid on during the evening’s live auction:

New this year will be auctioning opportunities to win exceptional wines and dining experiences through a fun and interactive fundraising raffle, The Wine Wall.

Rare Disease Foundation

About one third of children with a rare disease will not live to celebrate their 10th birthday—the Rare Disease Foundation wants to change this by joining together parents, doctors, researchers and volunteers united in their desire to revolutionize care for children with rare diseases.

No other health care or research agency in Canada currently focuses on improving the lives of children with rare and undiagnosed conditions.

Their Microgrant program works to solve problems that reflect patient priorities and care with peer-reviewed grants that provide a small amount of funding to applicants affiliated with Canadian institutions and on the front lines of rare disease care.
