There’s a new place in town to buy Stumptown Coffee, and you won’t find it on trendy West 4th in Kits or on hipster lane, aka Main Street.

In the heart of Chinatown is Luke’s General Store, a pop-up shop where a collection of quality goods meets small café set amongst a unique collection of finds.

Walk inside the unassuming Pender Street shop and immediately to your right is a wall of products featuring apothecary items by New York’s Malin & Goetz and Maine’s Portland General Store, Brooklyn-based Mast Brothers chocolates, campfire incense and other goods from Juniper Ridge, and Portland’s pride and joy, Stumptown Coffee Roasters, sold in whole bean bags. The beans will be roasted and delivered weekly from their Seattle location. The coffee bar includes a Marzocco espresso machine and a tap for serving Stumptown’s famous cold brew.

I attended last Thursday’s early evening VIP launch ahead of the public event (8 to 11 pm). Baristas served Stumptown while local brewers 33 Acres poured pale ale and lager into cups towards the back of the busy space.

An offshoot of Calgary’s Luke’s Drug Mart, Luke’s has now taken over Chinatown’s Space Lab. If you’ve not yet been to this eclectic space, it’s worth a stop in.

No two items are alike, and if antiques and collectables are your thing, this will likely become your new favourite city haunt.

This mix of coffee house and one-of-a-kind finds can be found at 126 East Pender Street.
