Black Lives Matter rally Vancouver

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is an annual American holiday that began on June 19, 1865. As Canadians we can’t ignore the direct ties that many of our citizens have with our neighbouring Americans south of the border.

This Friday, June 19, join organizers Nora Stevens, Shamika Mitchell and Black Vancouver brand ambassador Clément Isanganino at Jack Poole Plaza at 4 pm.

The time to stand together is NOW.

After two stagnant protests (Vancouver Art Gallery, Olympic Cauldron), many Vancouverites are demanding a march in unity, symbolizing immense power, tradition and history.

Our ancestors marched to create change and to express community values, morals and needs. Voices are to be heard and freedom of speech expressed as we stand in solidarity. We all desire change; hopefully, our generation will be the one to alter the world for the better.

Wear black and get ready to march and participate in a pivotal moment in our history. Follow the action on Twitter @blackvancouver_ and on Instagram @blackvancouver.
