Hamburger Disco-9

With a name like Hamburger Disco, you know I couldn’t keep away, so I went to their grand opening in Mount Pleasant last Saturday to check it out.

Hamburger Disco is a t-shirt/accessories pop-up shop that has (together with local designer Isabelle Dunlop) taken over the space at 196 Kingsway (at the corner of 10th) in Vancouver for a month.

“It all started with a trip to Japan…”

While on vacation in Japan, we realized that North America didn’t celebrate hamburger couture as much as it should. Capsule toys, pencils, candy, beach balls, CD Cases, stationary, street art – it seemed like there were hamburgers on everything in Japan.  How could we as North Americans — the founders of the hamburger — not represent?  Hamburger Disco was founded shortly thereafter.

A group of Vancouver artists were chosen to design the sought-after line of shirts.

As I was there for the inaugural week, Kristian Hay, Amanda Flagg, Colin Moore, and Michael Gilbert’s t-shirt designs are currently for sale.

Week two will feature Terry Chui, Mark Pilon, Fraser Adams and Dacosta.

Week three’s release will be a mystery artist.

As well, Hamburger Disco has collaborated with The Salvation Army in a special limited edition Japan Relief t-shirt to help victims of the tsunami in Japan.
