Glowbal at TELUS Garden, November 2015

Last week, I was invited to a long-table supper sampling of Glowbal Group’s latest, design award-winning restaurant in downtown Vancouver. Glowbal at TELUS Garden’s recently picked up an International Interior Design Association INaward for their latest incarnation into the Glowbal Group family. Local interior design firm Box Design is to thank for that accolade.

The posh restaurant opened earlier this fall with a mixture of modern, elegant lighting fixtures, quilted leather cladding with brass stud silhouettes, a two-storey hammered metal hood on the restaurant’s exclusive robata grill, metallic gold wallpaper, and swaths of white and black marble throughout the 17,000 square-foot downtown space.

It’s definitely the centerpiece of the Glowbal restaurant empire and features many customer favourites prepared by California-born Pedro Gonzalez and his team. Chef Pedro’s worked in top Las Vegas eateries such as Tableau at the Wynn Resorts, Botero at the Encore (Wynn’s sister property) and Aqua at the Bellagio.

Chef Gonzalez looks forward to working with our abundance of local seafood and produce, forging new relationships with farmers and fisherman in our province’s culinary industry.

Our six-course dinner included small versions of miso-marinated sablefish in shitake consommé served alongside a chilled sesame-infused soba noodle salad, bison short ribs with rum-chimichurri, avocado and turmeric mash, and truffled spaghetti and signature meatballs with pomodoro sauce.

As I had to leave a bit early for another engagement, I’m hoping to return to try their Zeppole al Cioccolato: Italian style doughnuts, hazelnuts, vanilla crème anglais and amaretti biscuit.

The menu is focused on continental North American cuisine with great flavour and hearty Canadian dishes done with pizazz.

If you’ve not yet had the chance to dine at Glowbal at TELUS Garden, head on down and enjoy an drink at the outdoor fireplace and indulge in a wonderful dinner right in the heart of the city.
