Dine Out at Blackbird Public House

If you’re looking to enjoy Dine Out Vancouver at your favourite Donnelly Group venue, you’re in luck: the well-loved city public houses (including Cinema, Lamplighter, Library Square, Blackbird, The Three Brits, The New Oxford and Railway Stage & Beer Cafe) have a value-packed $20 three-course menu on offer.

In addition, Donnelly Group’s two cocktail clubs each offer their own distinct menus, with dishes to reflect their unique menu style.

Donnelly’s Dine Out Vancouver menus are available beginning at 5 pm, with Clough Club and Granville Room keeping theirs going until late, as great cocktail bars should.

Hearty entrees, vegetarian options and homemade desserts are all part of the deal. Donnelly Group’s culinary team (Alvin Pillay, Sarah Stewart, Chris Stewart) have crafted a core group of 14 dishes to enjoy amongst the venues.

Dine Out at Blackbird Public House-3

Perusing the menus online, we headed to The Blackbird Public House earlier this week to get the Dine Out Donnelly experience.

The atmosphere is very laid back and comfortable, between a long row of tables along the middle of the dining area with surrounding booths and square tables.

We started with a kale Caesar salad, in a tiny portion size with green apple slices, garlic croutons and pumpkin seeds, paired with a glass of Summerhill’s ‘Alive’ Organic White.

The other option is a strangely-combined cauliflower and Brie soup with charred lemon yogurt.

Brisket Cavatappi

Our mains were the highlight of the meal. A hearty brisket with cavatappi pasta mixed with tomato sauce, oregano and grana padano was well married with a glass of Tinhorn Creek 2014 Merlot. I must add here that if you’re not a fan of green olives, make sure you ask for this dish without them. I had to send mine back as I’m just not an olive fan.

Yam Falafel Bowl

The yam falafel bowl makes a respectable vegetarian option opposite the brisket and spicy lamb shepherd’s pie, the third of three mains on offer. Yam, falafel and feta all go down nicely with a glass of Volcanic Hills Pinot Gris.

Chocolate Praline Bar

As for dessert, it’s a small plate of either a chocolate praline bar (with peanut butter, sweet cream and chopped nuts) or coconut panna cotta with peach compote and ginger cookies. These are both paired with Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve or Monkey Shoulder (a blend of three different single malts: Glenfiddich, Balvenie and Kininvie) whiskies.

Donnelly Bar and Beverage Director Trevor Kallies paired all menus with BC VQA wines (in 3, 6 or 9-oz. pours), so you can sip and sample, perhaps discovering a new wine for your table.

If these photos whet your appetite, you’ve got until February 4 to get in on the deal. Visit Dine Out Vancouver and Donnelly Group online for more info.
