Controversial businessman du jour Elon Musk famously said, “You should always bear in mind that entropy is not on your side.” It’s a sad fact that with aging, the skin cellular turnover process slows down, along with the production of collagen and elastin.
Combined with environmental pollutants and stress, this toxic cocktail is not on your side either! Expensive, yet non-invasive chemical peels have been used by celebrities to give their faces glow and polish.
If you’ve ever thought about getting one but are wary of the harsh effects, Dermalogica’s Rapid Reveal Peel might be worth considering.
This product is their first professional-grade peel that can be used in the comfort of your home, with no downtime. Rapid Reveal Peel helps to stimulate cell renewal with a unique complex of phytoactive AHA extracts, fermented plant enzymes and the maximum allowable home-use concentration of Lactic Acid (10%).
Pumpkin Fruit Enzyme (a gentle exfoliant) and Rice Bran Extract (a natural source of phytic acid) promote the removal of dull surface cells while Australian Caviar Lime Extract boosts skin radiance and evens out skin tone.
Ten tubes of the peel are packaged in a smartly designed travel pouch, affixed with a suction cup. Attach the pouch above your sink so you won’t forget to apply it every week.
The product is easy to use – twist off the cap, massage into the face, décolletage and hands, allow to activate for three to seven minutes, then rinse or wipe off.
If you don’t have sensitive skin and want faster results, the included instructions suggest an accelerated regime to start. Use one tube daily for three days, then switch to a weekly cycle (make sure to use an SPF if on the accelerated program as skin will be more sensitive).
The Dermalogica site features an app, Rapid Reveal Peel Mirror, which can be used on any computer or smartphone with a camera.
The app tracks your face to reveal a before-and-after portrait of the potential potency of the product. The after-image did not appear dramatic although I would have been happy to achieve the results that the app predicted.
The peel has the texture of thin syrup and is best used after showering, while your pores are still open. It has a mild, tingly sensation while drying and rinses cleanly without parching the skin. After a trial week, I unfortunately did not see any major changes in evenness or radiance on my face.
My skin was a bit smoother but there were definitely no intense negative effects. A longer usage period may be necessary for optimal outcomes and as with all skin products, individual results will vary.
Each tube contains a lot of product: if used sparingly, one tube can be stretched to three or even four applications. Save the twist-off tip and plug the top end back into the tube.
Try the Rapid Reveal Peel as a gentle alternative to salon treatments or use it to maintain and prolong the effects of a professional chemical peel.
Dermalogica’s Rapid Reveal Peel retails at CAD $114 for 10 tubes, which will last a bit over two months. Although the results may not be immediately noticeable, the product is less than the cost of a single chemical peel with a reputable esthetician.
