The Arc’teryx Atom LT Hoody is a super soft, cozy, hip-length jacket that I’ve gotten to love zipping up on chilly autumn mornings and breezy evenings.
When the jacket arrived at our office, I took it out of the package, put it on and headed straight to Jericho Beach Park on a late October afternoon between the storms.
The North Vancouver-headquartered company’s created the versatile Atom LT Hoody with the West coast’s three seasons in mind. It’s lightweight, breathable and insulated, offering neck protection and an adjustable hood.
In case you’ve ever wondered, Arc’teryx is named after the bird-like dinosaur Archaeopteryx Lithographica, the first reptile to develop its feather for flight.
I really like the detailing in this hip-length jacket, from stretch-knit cuffs to contrasting, breathable side panels. The Atom LT’s sporty yet stylish enough to be paired with jeans and boots. The material reminds me of a sleeping bag (it’s that soft) — without the bulk.
The jacket’s sides are produced with a form-fitting, power stretch Polartec fabric offering ventilation.
Arc’teryx designed the Atom LT with Coreloft™, a synthetic insulation composed of short polyester staple fibres in large fibre diameters. This helps increase overall air permeability to improve moisture vapor transfer and temperature regulation.
– Resilient, synthetic Coreloft™ quick-drying insulation retains warmth in humid and wet conditions
– Outer surface is treated with a durable water repellant (DWR) finish
– 100% nylon shell
– Motion-friendly trim fit
– Weighs a mere 380 g (13.4 oz.)
– Contains an internal chest pocket and two hand pockets
Cyclists will be happy to know that the hood can accommodate a helmet as well. The Atom LT is great for hikes, alpine treks, skiing, boarding and snowshoeing. It also packs down nicely for travel.
As for washing, Arc’teryx recommends using a front-loading washer. For those with top-loading machines, pop the jacket into a mesh bag first.
The Atom LT comes in seven colours plus black in sizes XS to XL and retails for CAD $300 (note my Atom LT Hoody’s in lovely Cerulean, a colour that’s sadly not in the current collection).
In addition to the Hoody, there’s the Atom LT Jacket (non-hooded, CAD $280) and Atom LT Vest (CAD $240). The men’s Atom LT Hoody can be found here.
