Il Nido restaurant interior

Last April, I attended Cafe Il Nido’s spring menu launch, discovering a variety of enjoyable Italian dishes at this well-established restaurant off of Robson Street.

Fast-forward to October 2011: Il Nido has just launched its autumn menu. I was invited earlier this week to sample home made pasta and focaccia, California bison, an assortment of appetizers and several red and white BC wines.

The cozy Cafe Il Nido seats about 50, while the bar can seat eight and the lounge area 14. When the weather cooperates, a patio will accommodate 40 guests.

Although this restaurant is located in the heart of downtown, you’d never know it by its tucked away location, making it a quiet spot for dining. It’s close to the Robson and Burrard corridor, making it easy to get to.

Franco Felice

Owner Franco Felice is a long time restaurateur in Vancouver, who’s very sociable with guests. His delicious Italian cuisine and experience throughout European kitchens proves his passion for cooking. Most of the dishes that I’ve tried to date are at once hearty and uncomplicated.

I particularly enjoyed the homemade butternut squash tortellini, served with crisp peas in a thyme cream sauce. This married well with my glass of Township 7 Sauvignon Blanc, and later a Pinot Blanc from Dunham & Froese.
