Boskke Sky Planter-4

Remember this cute little Boskke Sky Planter I wrote about last year? Well, since then Vancouver-based By Nature Design has grown (pardon the pun) with several new clients around town as well as a few upcoming products to green your home (including a soon-to-be-available clear cube planter).

Vancouverscape has since been featured twice on By Nature Design’s buzz-worthy page and you’ll be happy to know that our inverted greenery is happily thriving in our living room.

I recently visited with By Nature Design co-owner Fred Collay at FS Financials, a Westside company offering advice to younger clientele. As well as FS Financials (located at the corner of West Broadway and Hemlock), a couple of other spots that you can check out a By Nature living wall include Access Law at 1185 West Georgia (in lobby of 17th floor), and at a residence on the corner of West 8th Avenue and Oak, where an outdoor wall is now thriving (have a peek from the street).

The ModuloGreen trough-based living wall shown in these photos comprise over 300 plants belonging to four different tropical plant species, with a gutter installed at the bottom to collect water. The plumbing system in place schedules automatic watering, one to two times weekly depending on your room’s climate and natural light source(s). By Nature works with budgets and spaces of all sizes.

The green system converts C02 to oxygen, improving your health and increasing productivity all the while showing off a striking, all-in-one garden.

These walls have been installed in Ontario, Alberta, and in the US, via teams trained by Fred Collay and Nicolas Rousseau, two likeminded Frenchmen who decided to start this business for the love of nature and creativity. Nicolas has a Masters in Plant Physiology from France’s University of Poitiers, while Fred, a Communications and Journalism major, emigrated with his family from Paris to Canada in 2007. Within a few years, he was helping Nicolas with living wall technology in this country.

[A few of the many assorted Wallflower frame colours available]

These are showpiece gardens currently gracing the walls of businesses and residential homes alike. I’ve partnered up with By Nature to offer one lucky reader a Wallflower living frame valued at $80. You’ll get to meet Fred in his East Van green ‘urban jungle’ where you’ll pick a frame and plants for your new home green centrepiece.

To enter, follow both Vancouverscape and By Nature Design on Twitter and retweet the following:

I’ve entered for a chance to green my space via Vancouverscape and By Nature Design http://ow.ly/wOfk5

The 12” square frame accommodates four plants, is easy to maintain, and can be placed on a table, on a shelf, or mounted on a wall (with provided mounting kit).

If you’re not exactly a green thumb, don’t worry: these are easily maintainable with a bit of water and light.

Contest closes on May 30, when I’ll choose a winner at random at 5 pm. Congrats to Jillian Glover! I’ll be contacting you via Twitter to collect your prize.

Winner must be able to meet at By Nature Design’s showroom space at 1000 Parker Street (#490) in East Vancouver to customize and to collect their prize.
