FlexCare Platinum duo

With back to school season comes shopping for essentials, whether that includes a new laptop, wardrobe or small appliances.

Philips is a leading oral care specialist and we’ve used their Sonicare line for years. Dental checkups have been made easier by thorough brushing with their electric toothbrushes. It’s been several years since we purchased our Sonicare brushes and we thought it would be a great time to see how the technology’s changed since then.

Sonicare sent me a FlexCare Platinum with travel case and UV sanitizer. Sleek design and ultra light are the first things that popped into my head upon opening the box. We charged the unit overnight and got started the next morning. I liked the slim (classic) plug: it’s not one of those large, bulky AC adaptors that hog up the entire power strip!

There’s three intensity settings (from Low to High) as well as three cleaning modes: Clean, White or Gum Care. The FlexCare Platinum comes shipped with the Clean setting as default, so I started there. Those new to electric toothbrushes will be happy to know that Philips set an Easy-start feature to slowly build up power over a 14-day period, so your teeth and gums can adjust to the motor and brush handling.

The advanced brush head technology includes an intuitive pressure sensor that will sound off if you’re going at it too hard. There’s two timer options for a healthy, thorough brushing: the Quadpacer interval timer sounds when it’s time to move to another section of the mouth while the Smartimer gives you a full two-minute dentist-recommended session.

Key features include:
– Nine unique brushing options
– Three-week battery life between charges
– InterCare brush head to remove plague and polish teeth
– InterCare brush head bristles fade from blue to white when it’s time to replace

Sonicare’s unique dynamic cleaning action drives fluid between teeth, gently and effectively removing plaque (up to seven times more than normal brushing) due to its ability to reach deep between the teeth.

There’s a travel case and compact charger all set for taking on the road.

Another feature I wanted to check out was the UV sanitizer. After brushing, it’s a simple matter of air drying the brush head for a few minutes, then placing it inside the cleaner box facing the light bulb, closing the door and pressing the green button on top. The silent operation shuts off automatically after 10 minutes.

The FlexCare Platinum uses a rechargeable lithium ion battery. The battery light on the handle will flash yellow when it begins to run low. A two-year limited warranty can be extended for another six months by registering the product online. The FlexCare Platinum retails for CDN $199.99.

I’m happy so far with the FlexCare Platinum and have some great news: I’m giving one away in honour of healthy hygiene! To enter, follow both Vancouverscape and PhilipsSonicare on Twitter and RT the following:
